Is My Vision Bad????? -7.00 Right Eye -6.50 Left?

I got my eye exam and my vision has changed. I wear contacts and the measurements on the boxes say -7.00 for my right eye and -6.50 for my left eye. Honestly is this really bad? Im really sad right now because about two years ago (im guestimating) my prescription was -5.75. Is this a significant change for two years? What’s my eyesight measurement like in comparison with the average eyeglass wearer’s prescription?

    1. You are at the lower end of the range of what is called severe myopia (nearsightedness). It’s certainly not good vision, but it’s not extremely bad either. I don’t know how old you are but myopia usually stabilizes by the early twenties. It isn’t unusual for a prescription to change that much in 2 years. Most nearsighted people have a correction between -2.00 and -4.00. Don’t worry. Your eyesight will always be correctable with glasses/contacts and that’s the most important thing.

Moderate Myopia -3.00 to -6.00 diopters
Severe Myopia -6.00 to -9.00 diopters
      Extreme Myopia > -9.00 diopters
